US President Barack Obama on Tuesday condemned African leaders who refuse to give up power at the end of their terms in office, as he made the first address to the African Union (AU) by a US leader.

"Africa's democratic progress is at risk when leaders refuse to step aside when their terms end," Obama said in a speech at the AU's headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

The phrase that we expect from Obama to repeat for Saudi Arabia. He has a nice message, but he has no problem padding up to brutal autocrats that would have dissenters imprisoned, flogged and even executed, which IMO, contradicts that message entirely.

Politics should instead be run by two prominent political families who alternate power between themselves every few years.

While it is a a politically correct statement, it implies nothing. The president may even change every month, but if each president is acting like a PR officer of the oligarchic riches, then who the president is does not matter at all.
