If you are working, you probably are engaging in some kind of activity that requires logical or linguistic exercise, in which case, your brain will be less able to process your work in addition to a piece of music with distinct language. That is why music without vocals, or at least vocals in a language you don't understand, is most suitable for working. For this, I find the classical masters to always be suitable.

One of the distinct pleasures of working without language, as with painting, sculpting or any other manual labor, is that it then frees your ears to be the receivers of language, allowing you to listen to recitations of poetry, philosophical talks, or, of course, lyrical music.

This ability to produce something physically and visually while also engaging mentally and audibly is difficult to obtain in the modern working life. Noam Chomsky talks about the lament of artisans who, with the Industrial Revolution, felt culturally starved because not only could they no longer produce the fine crafts they and their forefathers had developed generation after generation, but also, could no longer enlist the pleasure of having someone read Shakespeare to them while they worked.
