One of the most striking and renowned lines from the book the Divine Comedy. Dante places this sentence on the door of the hell which gives an idea about the pains inside. The most horrible side of the hell, as epitomized by this sentence, more than any other suffering or punishment inside, is the fact that there is never ever any hope of salvation. Ever. One can just feel what can be implied in such a sentence, but understanding the content therein is not within human capacity, since however cynical or lost, a person harbors at least some minimal sort of hope inside. Complete loss of hope is not something to grasp, just like the idea of infinity.
